How Harmony Controller appliances are different from the installation in which customer brings hardware and installs Harmony Controller software?
They are not different at all. Harmony Controller appliances are just the hardware provided by A10 that customer can optionally purchase.

We do not support HC2000 and HC8000 as a part of same cluster. A cluster should be having same type of appliances, either HC2000 or HC8000

Can a customer purchase a HC8000 that supports 30 managed devices and purchase software license only for 10 managed devices?
Yes. Hardware and software licenses are decoupled.
